Is it possible in this day and age to actually have a postitive experience with a trade show? Our faith was dying, but once again, the infamous Ian Johnston pulls it off with as much style and class as his wardrobe at IPTV World Forum held here in London March 5-7.
Not only is it the perfect size with stands that don’t require a map to locate or illustrate that bigger is not necessarily better, this show seems to be about the business of IPTV. Sessions are well attended, content in the presentations is actually interesting (with a few dull exceptions by some puffed up execs who like to hear the sound of their own voice) and the attendees themselves who actualy seem to be enjoying being here and talking with other like minded individuals.
We have enjoyed two straight days of well attended media briefings for our clients and found that again, the guys and gals that cover IPTV are genuinely interested in what is going to work or not work.
Pints abound at the pub across the street and we were able to spend some quality time with the fine folks at Cable and Satellite Europe, Cable and Satellite International, Kagan/Jupiter and Faultline – couple that with a jublient Verimatrix who won the award for best content protection/rights management solution – we drew a crowd of folks that left the shop talk at home. Nice. Espial’s new marketing campaign rocks – gorillas and banannas – brilliant! Its nice to see a company that calls it like it is. And IPTV World Forum darling BitBand – is a bit unstoppable at the moment proving that innovative is sometimes better than being the biggest.
Highlights of the show were definately that knowledge that Brian Mahoney of Espial, Stuart Thomson of Cable & Satellite Europe and Josh Hizon of Kagan can hold their own with a Persian belly dancer.
Do the dogh!
Alex and Jennifer
